Willow Smith’s Boyfriend Shaves Her Head for “The Anxiety” Exhibit
Art has always served as a powerful means to channel emotions, and it’s now something bandmates Willow Smith and Tyler Cole are using yet again to make sense of turbulent times. On March 12, Cole shaved Smith’s entire head to end their 24-hour exhibit in a rented event space in Los Angeles. But this wasn’t just any hair transformation. It all tied into a bigger conversation about something many of us are dealing with as of late: anxiety.
Named after their band and self-titled album that dropped on Friday, their exhibit “The Anxiety” showcased Smith and Cole in a box exploring the eight stages of anxiety (paranoia, rage, sadness, numbness, euphoria, strong interest, compassion, and acceptance) for a full day. Visitors were able to watch the duo through a glass panel on one side while the other sides were covered in canvas for them to write words and messages throughout the piece.
Smith’s mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, posted a video on her Instagram feed and stories of the performance late Thursday night. In the stories, you can see Willow sitting as Cole takes shears to her locs. After Willow’s hair was completely shaved off, she put on a pair of white bunny ears while writing messages on the white wall behind her. At the end of Jada’s Instagram story, Willow is seen holding a sign that reads, “When you practice patience… you are emulating the very spirit of nature.”
You can listen to Smith and Cole’s new album “The Anxiety” on Spotify and wherever you stream music.
