Wander Beauty Wanderess Highlighter Makes On-the-Go Glow Easy – Review

TL;DR:

A powder highlighter that brightens cheeks, eyes—really, your whole face

Back when I was a budding beauty editor, there was no such thing as highlighter. Okay, there was such a thing. But, it was a thing for the stage or the runway. It was a tool in every makeup artist’s kit, sure. In your at-home makeup kit? Unlikely.

Take the Allure Best of Beauty Awards, a barometer of the beauty culture if ever there was one. In 2002, there was no highlighter category. Ten years ago: one (Lorac Perfectly Lit Oil-Free Luminizing Powder won it). And, last year, five different highlighters won Best of Beauty awards: a liquid, a gloss, a cream, a stick, and a powder. Highlighter has now become a makeup basic. I know because I use it almost every morning — and there are very few makeup items that I can say that about.

My glow-making arsenal has grown to include many formats of cheekbone-accentuating, face-lifting, skin-brightening highlighters. But I always come back to powders — I find them the easiest to control and they stick around. If I’m going through the trouble, I want to reap the benefits all day. My most recent favorite is Wander Beauty’s Wanderess Glow. The After Hours shade is a silvery pearl that glints off the planes of my face without looking greasy. I’m pretty pale, but several darker-skinned colleagues have also given this one a go, and it never goes chalky.

Wander Beauty’s whole MO is easy on-the-go and this formula is no exception. On harried mornings (most mornings), I just rub a finger over the creamy powder and then tap it along my cheekbones, curving up and around over my temples. There’s usually just enough left to press into the inner corners of my eyes and suddenly… good morning! Then, I slip the slim little square pan into my makeup bag for touch-ups. When I have more than 30 seconds, I swirl a tapered highlighter brush over the powder for a more air-brushed finish, then use a shadow brush to buff it over my lids. It’s a sure-fire wake-up call — and a highlight of my day.

You’ll find the Wander Beauty’s Wanderess Glow in After Hours in our February 2020 Allure Beauty Box.
