Cardi B Debuts New Pat McGrath Labs Makeup in ‘WAP’ Music Video
So much is going on in Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” video that I’m still processing it a week after its release. With a slew of unexplained celebrity cameos, a whole lot of snakes, and a few sculptures of boobs…. where does one even begin? The same totally goes for the mass of brightly colored wigs, makeup looks, and manicures the duo wear throughout the video. Apparently, among all that vivid scenery and wardrobe changing, a big product reveal slipped right under our radars.
On August 9, legendary makeup artist and brand founder Pat McGrath revealed via Instagram that one of her newest products made its world debut on the single’s cover art. As it turns out, the rosy nude lip gloss Cardi wears on the “WAP” single cover art is the result of the brand’s yet-to-be-released Lip Fetish Divinyl Lip Shine lipsticks. “@iamcardib serving MAJORNESS on her WAP single cover in this LEGENDARY LOOK as the first DIVA to wear the NEW #LipFetish #Divinyl Lip Shine in shade ‘NUDE VENUS,'” McGrath wrote on Instagram.
And that’s not the only big product that secretly debuted amid all the “WAP” madness. The baby-pink eye look seen on Cardi B at the beginning of the music video is the result of the brand’s upcoming Mthrshp Rose Decadence eye shadow palette. Cardi’s right-hand makeup artist, Erika La’Pearl, broke down every product she used for the look on Instagram (unsurprisingly, she used almost exclusively Pat McGrath products).
If you’re curious about both of these products (and I know you are), here’s what you gotta know: The Divinyl Lip Fetish Lip Shine lipsticks have a high-shine finish that essentially combines the opaque pigment of a matte lipstick with the hydrating comfort of the brand’s lip balm formula. They come in six shades in pink, red, nude, and plum shades. They’ll retail for $36 each when they launch.
The new Mthrshp Rose Decadence palette, on the other hand, will retail for $65. Unlike many of McGrath’s other Mthrshp eye palettes, this one features six shades. But, of course, every shade still carries the unparalleled smooth formula the brand is known for. As you can tell by Cardi’s look alone, the shades in Rose Decadence lean heavily toward pink and burgundy — but there are a couple of gold metallics in there as well.
