A Redditor Says This Vitamin C Serum Cleared Up Their Year-Old Scar — See Photos

Vitamin C is one of those ingredients that, much like retinoids, caters to myriad skin-care concerns, including sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, rough texture, and even stubborn scars. Speaking of which: One Redditor is currently getting attention for sharing her success story with vitamin C, which she used to treat a year-old scar on her hand.

The Redditor, who goes by Ndequarto on the discussion platform, shared their experience on the r/SkincareAddiction subreddit, along with before-and-after photos of their scar. “Vitamin C serum works! These two images were taken one month apart. I missed a few days here and there but here’s my progress on an old scar,” reads the caption. The post has since amassed over 3,000 upvotes and a sea of comments from fellow Redditors who are in awe of Ndequarto’s results.

As Ndequarto reveals in the comments, she used Vital C’s Vitamin C Serum for Face, which retails for just $11 on Amazon. Despite being so affordable, it still worked wonders at fading the scar (and in a fairly short amount of time no less). How did it do it, exactly? “Because of its antioxidant properties, vitamin C aids in your skin’s natural regeneration process, which helps your body repair damaged skin cells,” explains Patricia Wexler, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City who previously talked to Allure about the highly lauded ingredient. Additionally, vitamin C is highly acidic, so when it’s applied topically, the skin is triggered to heal itself.

Of course, everyone’s skin is different, so just because vitamin C was highly effective for Ndequarto, doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have the same exact results. (Sorry, folks.) More importantly: Some people are sensitive or allergic to vitamin C, so it’s always in your best interest to talk to a dermatologist first to see if it’s safe for your skin type. You should also always do a patch test first to see how your skin handles the ingredient before slathering it everywhere.

Congrats to our Redditor friend on fading their scar — and without having to hurt their wallet to boot.
